Growing Up Through Pictures

The ultimate wisdom of the photographic image is to say, 'There is the surface. Now think -- or rather feel, intuit -- what is beyond it, what the reality must be if it looks this way.'-- Susan Sontag, On Photography (1977)

Growing Up Through Pictures is an exhibition in development that explores the experience of loving others from afar and being with loved ones during brief and regulated visits.  This project is a collaborative effort between the Museum of the American Prison and the Civic-Duty Initiative, an organization of prisoners committed to "building up the communities that they once helped to tear down."
